Goodreads - Not a Great Challenge in 2015

Edit Posted by Dragonflies & Dill Pickles with No comments
It would appear that I didn't do well with my Goodreads Book Challenge for 2015... I completed a mere 24% of my challenge, only reading 6 books.

But this is a new year and I vow to to better this year!  First things first, is to find a good series to start with.  Recommendations?  Anyone??

I think I may start with the Bane Chronicles.  I absolutely LOVED the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, so I anticipate these to be a good (and quick) read as well.

Let's Squat!

Edit Posted by Dragonflies & Dill Pickles with No comments
I found great blog earlier this year: Eunicakes.  There are several 30 day Exercise Challenges posted there for both beginners and advanced fitness levels.  I will be incorporating these challenges into my workout.  The first one I have added is the 30 Day Squat Challenge.  I'm gonna work my butt off. Literally.

On a side note, I wore a bikini to the pool once near the end of the summer.  I am trying to regain my confidence and and not be so self conscious - especially around my daughters.  I want to teach my daughters to be proud of their bodies, and if I don't have confidence in my own body, how can I be a role model for them?!  Also,  I figure if plus sized models can wear cute bikinis, why can't I?

I realize swimming with my children is vastly different than sporting a bikini at a beach... this is a start.

Extend My Lashes!!

Edit Posted by Dragonflies & Dill Pickles with No comments
I love my mascara.  Seriously.  I rarely leave my house without it.  It makes me feel pretty.  Just that little boost of confidence that a single mom sometimes needs.  Yes, mascara gives that to me.  How sad is that?!

Last night I stepped out of my comfort zone and got eyelash extensions from a friend who is starting a new business.  The procedure itself, while time consuming (approximately 2 hours), was pleasantly relaxing.  Not sure what I was expecting -- perhaps pulling, squeezing sensations - but the whole approach was quite relaxing.  My own lashes are quite thin, so these extensions just give them a boost.  And I love that there is a hint of purple in the outer corners (perhaps not too evident in these pictures).  I will update again in about a week to see how the lashes are fairing.  All in all, I am quite happy with the final look and the technician herself!

If you would like to check her out, follow her on INSTAGRAM and FACEBOOK.

Peanuts.. Or life?!

Edit Posted by Dragonflies & Dill Pickles with No comments
I came across a post yesterday from another blogger and I must say, it truly rubbed me the wrong way.

I have a peanut allergy.  I break into hives just touching peanut butter.  I get a scratchy throat and watery eyes.  But thankfully, I do not go into anaphylactic shock.  My youngest daughter is intolerant to peanuts.  Again, her reaction is not life threatening as it it not classified as an allergy.  But if she ingests peanuts, believe me, you do not want to be anywhere near her.  Seriously, her projectile vomit reaction is something reminiscent of a horror movie.  On to my eldest daughter... she has the most severe reaction of the three of us.  She is the reason I do not allow peanut products in our home.  She is the reason I support our peanut free school.

I see the argument that people have life-threatening shell fish allergies.  And I am sympathetic, but how many families send shell fish to school for lunch?!  Perhaps tuna, but I don't think tuna travels well - I prefer mine to be kept in the fridge.

Having a friend with a daughter with a dairy allergy, I realize this is also a concern for school lunches because milk is everywhere and in everything.  I am not preaching that one allergy is worse or more acute than others.  Nor am I saying that all potential allergy inducing foods can or should be banned.

All children with an allergy are taught when then can and cannot eat, and in the process many of their friends learn as well.  But a school needs to be a safe environment and if airborne peanut allergies are present, peanuts cannot be in the classroom.  This mother has the best reaction to the orginal blog post.  I strongly recommend you read it as well.

Basically, this topic comes down to one point.  Is your child's love for a food more important than my child's life?

Mom on The Go Planner

Edit Posted by Dragonflies & Dill Pickles with No comments
It has arrived!! It has finally arrived!  And boy, was it worth the wait!

I absolutely LOVE my Mom on the Go Planner.  I was a little hesitant after ordering because it is essentially a "Mormon Planner".  But the Mom on the Go version does not have the LDS aspects.  There are still sections which I assume are for Biblical study and I am unsure what to use these pages for... perhaps reading/school work for the kids??

There are so many additives that make this planner so functional.  I love the 2 page spread at the beginning of each month that allows the scrapbooker in me to emerge.  There are several "planning" spreads as well; an emergency prep section, vacation planning and debt management.  Each month there is a financial section as well as weekly spreads and a monthly spread.  There is a section for birthday planning and cards of thanks.  There is just so much offered in this package!  It is definately worth the money!  I know I will be ordering this again next year.

I also stumbled across the Sweet Stamp Shop and have purchased several of their sets for my planner.  I definitely have the cutest planner around!
